Rain Soaked Triumph at the 71st Annual Cumberland Valley Majors Race
by Joe Aquilante
Phoenix Performance and friends embarked on a journey to Pitt International Raceway, situated in the western part of Pennsylvania, for the 71st Annual Cumberland Valley Majors Race.
Traveling across Pennsylvania during this time of year always offers a breathtaking experience on the scenic Pa Turnpike, and this particular trip was no exception—it was truly magnificent.
Unfortunately, once we were all settled in, Mother Nature had different plans, as rain showered down relentlessly on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, turning the race into a challenge for the Rainmeisters! Surprisingly, the Saturday race managed to stay dry, but on Sunday, all the qualifying sessions were drenched. The Sunday morning race was particularly soaked.
Andrew, Kurt, and Marshall, all avid lovers of rain, effortlessly conquered the elements in their respective classes—T-1, T-2, and T-3. It was almost as if the rain didn't exist, as each of them emerged victorious in their races.
Similarly, Amy Aquilante dominated the American Sedan category, winning both races, while her sister Beth secured second place on both days. Clearly, the rain posed no obstacle for them either!
Preston Calvert and Orie Voightman joined us for the exhilarating fun and festivities in the T-2 class, finishing second and third respectively on Saturday. Preston and I opted out of the Sunday race.
All in all, it was a delightful, albeit wet and chilly, event. The Phoenix Performance cars performed admirably, and the drivers showcased their skills even in the rain.
Looking ahead, the next race will take place at Pocono on May 20 and 21. We hope to see everyone there!
